Loading a Project: Sign In or Scan a QR Code

Before you can use LiveEdit Companion, you need to load at least one project onto your device.

There are two ways to do this:

  1. Sign in with your LiveEdit account
  2. Scan a project QR code (without signing in)

Each method offers a different level of integration and flexibility.

✅ Option 1 — Sign In with Your Account (Recommended)

This is the default and recommended method for all regular users.

  1. Tap Sign In on the app’s home screen
  2. Enter your username and password
  3. All projects that have been shared with your account will automatically appear and sync from the cloud

Signing in does not give you access to all LiveEdit projects — only to those where your user account has been explicitly invited by the production team.

Once signed in:

  • Your notes, layout preferences and activity are tied to you (not to the device)
  • All your data stays available across multiple devices
  • Your work is automatically backed up and versioned in the cloud

Example: You can sign in on your iPad for live annotation, then review your notes on your iPhone later that day — seamlessly.

🔄 Option 2 — Scan a Project QR Code (Anonymous Access)

If you don’t have a LiveEdit account — or simply need to consult a project quickly — you can scan a QR Code generated from the LiveEdit desktop app hosting the project.

This gives you full access to the project, which is loaded and synced from the cloud just like with a signed-in session.

However, since you’re not identified as a user, all notes and preferences are saved locally on this device only.

Warning: This method is convenient, but should only be used for temporary or one-off access.

💡 Best Practice

If you’re part of the production crew or plan to work on the project over time, always sign in with your account.

It ensures that:

  • Your work follows you across devices
  • Your notes are safe in the cloud
  • Your presence is traceable in collaborative environments
